Adding a Neo Smart Blinds
Controller to your account

Getting Started

After creating a new account, or when logging into an account that is not associated with a Neo Smart Blinds Controller, you will automatically be prompted to add a Controller.

More Details

You can also initiate the Neo Smart Blinds Controller add process anytime by selecting “Add a Controller” in the menu.

Behind the scenes the Neo Smart Blinds Controller add process consists of two parts:

1. Connecting the  Neo Smart Blinds Controller to your home WiFi
2. Associating the Neo Smart Blinds Controller with your account

Note that you will not be able to control your blinds until you have added at least one Neo Smart Blinds Controller to your account.

Step 1 - Power Up

Neo Smart Blinds - controller plug in

Install your Neo Smart Blinds Controller somewhere central with a strong WiFi signal. An LED underneath the Neo Smart Blinds Controller will turn on to indicate it is receiving power.

More Details

When choosing the location(s) for your Neo Smart Blinds Controller(s) you must ensure that:

1.  The Neo Smart Blinds Controller receives a strong WiFi signal from your router
2.  All of your motorized blinds receive a strong radio signal from at least one of your Neo Smart Blinds Controllers.

These factors may be hard to assess before using the system, so take your best guess. You can easily reposition your Neo Smart Blinds Controller(s), or add a new Neo Smart Blinds Controller at a later time.

After choosing a location, plug your Neo Smart Blinds Controller into a reliable power source using the adapter and cable that came with it. Alternative use any standard micro USB power supply capable of supplying at least 1000mA of current.

Step 2 - Prepare your Neo Smart Blinds Controller

Press the “S” button for 10 seconds, then press “R”. The LED will blink blue faster after the “S” has been held for a full 10 seconds.

More Details

You need to transfer your home’s WiFi information (network name & password) to the Neo Smart Blinds Controller so it can access the Internet. This is done by first putting the Neo Smart Blinds Controller into a special “Setup-Mode”.

A Neo Smart Blinds Controller is in Setup-Mode when the LED underneath is blinking blue. (The first time you plug in your Neo Smart Blinds Controller it will probably start in Setup-Mode.)

You can put a Neo Smart Blinds Controller into Setup-Mode anytime by holding the “S” button for a few seconds. However, when adding a Neo Smart Blinds Controller to your account for the first time we recommend holding the “S” button for a full 10 seconds, then pressing “R”, which wipes the memory clean of any past WiFi network information, providing a fresh start.

Adjust your WiFi settings to connect to the Neo Smart Blinds hotspot.

More Details

When it’s in Setup-Mode (LED blinking blue), your Neo Smart Blinds Controller creates it’s own WiFi hotspot. From a computer or mobile device it will appear on your available list of available WiFi networks as:

Neo-Smart-Blinds-XXXX(Where XXXX are four random characters.)

You must connect your phone, tablet, or computer to this hotspot to continue to the setup process.

This is done differently depending on the operating system of the device you are using. See the videos for Android and iOS to the right.

Important note to Android users:

After connecting to the hotspot, you should wait about 10 seconds before returning to the app. Your phone may notify you that this access point does not have Internet access, and ask you whether you want to remain connected. You should confirm that you do before continuing.

Step 4 - Choose WiFi

Select the WiFi network your Neo Smart Blinds Controller should use, then enter the network password.

More Details

Your Neo Smart Blinds Controller will automatically scan for the WiFi networks available in the area. Select your home network, and enter the password.

If you don’t see your WiFi network on the list, you can try rescanning. If you still don’t see your WiFi network after rescanning, you will need reposition your Neo Smart Blinds Controller.

To reposition your Neo Smart Blinds Controller, simply exit the Controller add process, move your Controller closer to your router, and start over.

Creating a WiFi hotspot takes a lot of power. While the WiFi signal may look strong (i.e. have many signal bars) before you connect, it can significantly drop in intensity while the Neo Smart Blinds Controller is also transmitting information. Keep your phone or tablet within a few feet to minimize transmission distance.
If this problem persists after several attempts, contact technical support.

Important note to Android users:

After connecting to the hotspot, you should wait about 10 seconds before returning to the app. Your phone may notify you that this access point does not have Internet access, and ask you whether you want to remain connected. You should confirm that you do before pressing “Next” in step 3. Otherwise you will see this error message in the app.

Troubleshooting:
The Neo Smart Blinds Controller didn't come online

See solution

This can happen for a few reasons:

  • The wrong WiFi credentials (i.e. combination of network name and password) were provided.  We suggest verifying you can connect with another device (e.g. phone or tablet) using those WiFi credentials before trying again. (If you see this error message and your Neo Smart Blinds Controller is blinking blue, it is because the wrong credential were provided.)
  • The WiFi signal is not strong enough. Even with the right credentials, your Neo Smart Blinds Controller will fail to connect if it doesn’t get a strong signal from the router. Move it closer and try again. (Your Neo Smart Blinds Controller will be blinking green or blue rapidly if this is the problem).
  • Your WiFi network does not have access to the Internet, or your Neo Smart Blinds Controller is being blocked by a firewall. (Your Controller will be blinking green very slowly if this is the problem).

More Details

This error message appears if your Neo Smart Blinds Controller has already been added to another account. For example, an account you created with another email. A Neo Smart Blinds Controller can only belong to a single account, so you must delete it from the old account before adding it to the new one.

If you have not already added it to another account, contact technical support.

Adding a Blind

Getting Started

After adding your Neo Smart Blinds Controller(s), you will need to add your blinds. This can be done by selecting “Add a Blind” from the menu.

More Details

Behind the scenes, adding a blind consists of two parts:

1. Creating a virtual blind in the app.
2. Pairing the physical blind in your home with the virtual blind in the app.

Note that you will not be able to control your blinds until you have added at least one Neo Smart Blinds Controller to your account.

Step 1 - Provide details about the blind

Neo Smart Blinds app - add blind

Choose the room that the blind will belong to, or add a new one, then give the blind a name. Note that you can add up to 14 blinds into a single room.

More Details

When naming your blind, try to use a descriptive name (e.g. East Wall, or Bay Window) so that you can easily identify the blind later.

Step 2 - Confirm your choices

While renaming a blind is easy, grouping it into another room later requires many steps. Think carefully about how you want to group your blinds into your rooms, so as to avoid needing to change this later.

Step 3 - Prepare the blind

Method 1

Method 2

Put the blind into Pair-Mode by pushing the red “P” button for 2-3 seconds, or using the remote.

More Details

In order to control a blind, it must be paired with the app. This requires you put the blind into “Pair-Mode”, then send the blind a special signal, pairing it into the selected room. How you put a blind into pair-mode depends on the type of motor it uses.

Typically this can be done in one of two ways:

  • Push and hold the red “P” button for 2-3 seconds until the blind jogs back and forth or beeps.
  • On the blind’s primary remote control**, select the blind’s channel then press and hold the “C” and “L” buttons together until it jogs back and forth.
*** The primary remote control is the first remote control the blind is paired with after a memory wipe

Step 4 - Send pairing signal

Send the pairing signal by pushing the “Pair” button. The blind should again jog back and forth. If you see that happen push “Okay it worked”, otherwise push “Retry”.

Troubleshooting:
The blind does not acknowledge the pairing signal in step 4.

If sending the pair signal doesn’t work the first time you can try sending the signal again by pushing “Retry”. However, if it doesn’t work after several attempts you should try one of the following:

  • Ensure the blind is actually in Pair-Mode. A blind will automatically exit Pair-Mode if it isn’t sent a pairing signal within several minutes. To ensure a blind is in Pair-Mode:

    a) Force the blind into its normal operating state. This can be done by selecting its channel on its primary remote control, then pushing up or down repeatedly until it starts to move. This may take 15-20 clicks of the remote if the blind was in pair-mode.

    b) On the blind, push and hold the “P” button for 2-3 seconds until it jogs back-and-forth or beeps. Now press “Retry” in the app.
  • Reposition your Neo Smart Blinds Controller closer to the blind so as to improve the signal strength, then push “Retry”. See instructions for repositioning your Neo Smart Blinds Controller.

Troubleshooting:
My original remote control no longer works with one of my blinds.

See solution

This can occur for several reasons:

  • The blind motor does not have power. Ensure the batteries are charged.
  • The remote control is not working. Ensure it can control another blind. If it can’t, replace the batteries or the remote control.
  • The memory on the blind was cleared. If the “P” button is held for too long, or if it is pressed for 2-3 seconds when the blind is already in Pair-Mode, the blind will jog back and forth twice, indicating the memory has been cleared. If this happens you will need to repair the original remote control. To do so:

    a) On the blind, press and hold the “P” button for 2-3 seconds, until it jogs back-and-forth or beeps.

    b) On the remote control, select a channel for the blind, then press “C” (on the back of the remote).

Repositioning a Neo Smart Blinds Controller

Repositioning

To reposition a Neo Smart Blinds Controller that is already associated with your account to a new location with access to the same WiFi network, simply unplug it and replug in the desired location.

More details

When powered back on, the Neo Smart Blinds Controller should move through four states:

  • Blinking green rapidly (connecting to the WiFi)
  • Blinking green very slowly (WiFi connection established)
  • Blinking light-blue rapidly (connecting to the Cloud)
  • Blinking light-blue very slowly (Cloud connection established).

If successful the Neo Smart Blinds Controller will get to state 4.

To reposition your Neo Smart Blinds Controller somewhere with a different WiFi network, delete the Controller from your account, then re-add it once in the new location.
